The Allan Simpson Educational Fund

The Allan Simpson Educational Fund was established in May 2002 to assist with the costs of post-secondary education for young people who are full orphans (both parents deceased). Mr. Allan Simpson was born in Ontario and was orphaned as a child. He was raised in an orphanage that was maintained and managed by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Ontario. He emigrated to the United States after World War II and had been employed as a merchant seaman. He died after a lengthy illness on August 27, 1995. His bequest of funds to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows upon his death was made to express his considerable gratitude and loyalty towards the Order. The annual awards are available to qualified applicants in their quest for a post secondary education and will be renewable if the applicant maintains a passing average as a full time student at the University or College. In the initial year there were two awards of $2500.00 each and three awards of $1600.00 each presented to selected applicants. The number and amount of the Awards each year is subject to the interest earned by the Fund. The awards will be disbursed in two installments payable to the University/College to be credited to the student's account. The first half will be mailed to the University/College after the student provides confirmation of registration as a full time student for the fall semester and the remainder will be mailed when the student provides proof of registration for the winter semester and a transcript showing a passing average from the fall semester. Please be advised that this award is not specifically intended for Grey Bruce students, however, it has either been won in the past by a local student and/or the Foundation felt it was a significant resource for post-secondary achievement goals.
