Ontario Power Generation - University Engineering Award

One annual student award, valued at $2,400 per Ontario Univeristy, is available to be granted to a member of an employment equity target group  women, indigenous peoples (First Nations, Metis, and Inuit), visible minorities and persons with disabilities.   This award will assist a student pursuing Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental or Nuclear Engineering Program. Applicants must demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills and participate in extra curricular activities and a resume is required (please see detailed criteria below). Please be advised that this award is not specifically intended for Grey Bruce students; however, it has either been won in the past by a local student and/or the Foundation felt it was a significant resource for post-secondary achievement goals.

Requirements

Criteria:

  • This award is granted to a student who has completed one year and is currently in the second year of an Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering Program
  • Requires strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Provide proof of good academic standing (minimum B average)
  • Involved in extra curricular activities, including volunteer work
  • Will not be receiving more than one other award of equal or greater value in his/her second year
  • Have submitted a completed nominee information package, which must include a brief 250-500 word overview of your qualifications, interest in the OPG University Engineering Award, along with other required attachments detailed above under process
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada upon graduation

* For Lakehead University the award recipient will be in the third year Technology program and continuing in the Engineering degree program. 

Process:

  • The award recipient is nominated through the University's internal award selection process/program
  • Following nomination, the Awards Office provides written notification and a completed award nominee information package to OPG.   The Award applicant/nominee information package must include the following items:
    • A letter of nomination/recommendation form the Student Awards Office
    • A 250-500 word overall prepared by the nominee, highlighting their qualifications/interest in the OPG University Engineering Award
    • A copy of the nominees most recent official transcript
    • A copy of the nominees current resume, listing all work, volunteer and extra curricular activities (full time and part time)
  • Following acceptance of the nominee, OPG provides the Student Awards Office with a letter of congratulations to the award recipient, along with the accompanying award cheque to be presented to the recipient at the University's Student Awards Ceremony
