M'Chigeeng First Nation Education Scholarship

The M'Chigeeng First Nation Education Scholarship is one of several First Nation scholarships established by an anonymous donor in 2015 to provide financial assistance to enable students from the First Nations in Grey and Bruce Counties and Manitoulin Island to pursue their studies in post-secondary education. The scholarships are disbursed from the income earned on endowed funds. This award is provided through the M'Chigeeng First Nation Education Scholarship Fund held by the Community Foundation Grey Bruce. This award will be distributed annually, may be awarded to more than one student and the amount will vary from each year.

Requirements

Criteria: 1) Education scholarships for post-secondary education are available to be distributed to students from M'Chigeeng First Nation. 2) Applicants must be registered with a recognized college or university for the upcoming school year. 3) Applications may be submitted for each year that the student is attending college/university. Requirements: 1) Applicants will fill out the online form below and upload required support documents:

  • Copy of application or acceptance from Post Secondary Institution.
  • Proof of Aboriginal Ancestry with band number or copy of status card.
  • If entering post-secondary school for the first time, proof of graduation from an Ontario Secondary School or G.E.D. program
  • Letter of recommendation from Secondary School Representative, or First Nations Education Representative or Post Secondary Education Representative.
  • Copies of any awards, diplomas or other supporting documents.
  • Proof of involvement in the community with supporting letter of reference.

2) If the student is not accepted in a course at college/university or if the student drops out of the course, the grant must be returned to Community Foundation Grey Bruce. 3) A follow-up report is required at the end of the school year outlining accomplishments. A copy of transcript for year funded is to be submitted at year-end. Selection Procedure: 1) All applications for M'Chigeeng First Nation Education Scholarship will be reviewed by the Education department of the Reserve after the October 1st deadline. Recommendations will be submitted to the Band Council for final decision then forwarded to Community Foundation for funds to be released. 4) Community Foundation Grey Bruce will inform all applicants of the status of their applications once final decisions are made. Presentation of Awards: The Scholarship Awards will be forwarded to the applicant's sponsor. Special recognition will be given to the award winners in their community by the Band Chiefs and the Community Foundation Grey Bruce
