Lincoln M. Alexander Award

The award is named after the late Honourable Lincoln M. Alexander, who was the 24th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, serving from 1985 - 1991.  He was the first member of a minority group to serve as a Lieutenant Governor in any province in Canada. The Lincoln M. Alexander Award honours youth who have demonstrate exemplary leadership in eliminating racial discrimination in Ontario.  The award was first given in 1993.  Three awards are given each year: two Student Awards and one Community Award.  Recipients receive a personalized certificate as well as a $5,000 cash award. Please be advised that this award is not specifically intended for Grey Bruce students, however, it has either been won in the past by a local student and/or the Foundation felt it was a significant resource for post-secondary achievement goals.

Requirements

  • Students must be nominated by their school or community organization
  • In order for your nomination to stand out against the many others received, you must explain and include evidence and clear examples of what makes your nominee so exceptional
  • Don't just say your nominee is outstanding - prove it!
  • It's important to use specific and concrete examples to illustrate how your nominee meets each of the eligibility and award criteria.
  • Provide examples of how your nominee has demonstrated outstanding character and is a deserving candidate for the honour or award

Eligibility: Two Student Awards - A student award is given to a full time student who attends a senior high school or who will be entering a post-secondary education program.  Students must be nominated by their school. One Community Award  - A community award is open to anyone who lives in Ontario and is between 16 and 25 years old and who is nominated by a community organization or agency that works in race relations.
