Joseph G. Doria Exemplary Student Award (Welding)

The Joseph G. Doria Exemplary Student Award is a National award established in 2013 to honour the leadership of Mr. Doria as Chairman of the CWB Group Board of Directors from 2009-2013 for the purposes of promoting and encouraging the pursuit of a career in Welding Engineering. Mr. Doria has been an active participant in the welding industry for over 42 years and is President and CEO of Lincoln Electric Company of Canada.

This award will be given to a Canadian secondary student who shows exemplary academic excellence, a demonstrated passion for the welding industry, and community involvement, that is entering a full time technician or technologist program in welding with a desire to pursue a career in the industry.

Please be advised that this award is not specifically intended for Grey Bruce students, however, it has either been won in the past by a local student and/or the Foundation felt it was a significant resource for post-secondary achievement goals for local students. Georgian College (OS campus) has a welding program.

Requirements

Instructions:

  1. Complete the application form as per the instructions as well as Section 1, 2, 3 and 4, and sign. The application must include the following:
  2. Prepare an essay (500 words) that includes information regarding the following weighed categories: academic achievement and awards (80+ average in Grade 11 and at the completion of Grade 12), community and school involvement and accomplishments, welding related volunteer or work experience, strength of essay in describing career goals and interest in a career in the industry, strength of essay in describing personal challenges to post-secondary education, overall essay - grammatically correct, free of errors. Total Score of possible 100
  3. Include a current transcript verification report with specified Grade 11-12 marks highlighted
  4. Include two letters of reference from a teach, staff member, or employer relating to your activities in welding and other courses. The staff member should provide the reason they think the student is worthy of consideration for the award.
  5. Include post-secondary proof of registration and/or acceptance.
  6. Submit your application via e-mail to the CWA Foundation Director at deborah.mates@cwa-foundation.org, or mail it to the CWA Foundation, 8260 Parkhill Drive, Milton, ON L9T 5V7.
  7. Successful recipients will be notified by March 14, 2016. Funds will be disbursed directly to the accepting College or university once confirmation of acceptance has been received by the student and received by the CWA Foundation.

Expectations of Recipients: All applicants must confirm their agreement with the following expectations should they be a recipient of the award:

  • Recipients must agree to be publically acknowledged and recognized
  • Recipients must agree to include their name and photograph in any internal and/or external communications or marketing collateral that the CWA Foundation deems appropriate
