Canadian Welding Association Foundation Secondary School Awards Program

The Canadian Welding Association Foundation Secondary School Awards Program was founded in 2014 for the purposes of promoting and encouraging the pursuit of post-secondary education in welding. The awards are for students who show an aptitude and passion for the welding industry and/or financial need, and are applying to a certified welding program recognized by provincial authorities. Grade 12 secondary students wishing to pursue full-time post-secondary studies in welding at a Canadian community college or University. Please be advised that this award is not specifically intended for Grey Bruce students, however, it has either been won in the past by a local student and/or the Foundation felt it was a significant resource for post-secondary achievement goals. Georgian College (Owen Sound) also offers a welding program for post-secondary study.

Requirements

  • Students who show an aptitude and passion for the welding industry
  • And/or financial need
  • Students that are currently enrolled in as secondary education program and applying for a certified welding program offered in a post-secondary learning institution recognized by provincial authorities
  • Students that are enrolled in 1st period apprenticeship welding or pre-employment welding are also eligible to apply, to cover cost of initial enrollment into the 1st period program
  • Application must be within 2 months of enrollment into the 1st Period welding program
  • The CWA Foundation will be selecting 20-25 secondary school students from across Canada to receive an award of $2,000-$2,500 each
  • The number of students and amount awarded will be dependent on the number of applications received

1. Complete the application form as per the instructions as well as Section 1, 2, 3 and 4, and sign. The application must include the following: 2. An essay (minimum 1,000 words) that includes information regarding academic achievement and awards, strength of essay in describing career goals and interest in a career in the industry, strength of essay in describing personal challenges to post-secondary education, welding related volunteer or work experience, community and school involvement and accomplishments, overall essay - grammatically correct, free of errors 3. Include two letters of recommendation from faculty members from the student's 1st year and/or an employer relating to the students activities in welding and related course 4. Include a current transcript verification report with specified previous year(s) program marks highlighted 5. Include proof of registration and/or acceptance into one of the programs 6. Submit your application via email to the CWA Foundation Director at deborah.mates@cwa-foundation.org, or post mail to the CWA Foundation, 8260 Parkhill Drive, Milton, Ontario L9T 5V7 7. Successful recipients will be notified by January. Funds will be distributed directly to the accepting College or University once confirmation of acceptance has been received by the student and received by the CWA Foundation
