Random Act of Kindness Day
Together with our five local Community Funds and other Community Foundations across Ontario, we took part in Random Act of Kindness Day (RAK) on November 3rd. The Foundation office in Carney's Lane served as a kindness hub where people picked up cards and posters for their workplace or to deliver with baked goods to those who have made a positive impact in their lives.
Chair of the Owen Sound Community Fund, Marion Koepke, dressed as the Queen of Kindness. Marion and her kindness contingent made up of Ruth Henderson, Sandy Stevenson and Jan Chamberlain kicked off Random Act of Kindness Day with an interview on CFOS then dropped by downtown businesses and retirement homes spreading the kindness message and distributing RAK cards and chocolate hugs.
Leading the RAK promotion for the Meaford Community Fund were Geoff Solomon and Dan White. They successfully brought the campaign to their community as several locations including banks, the library, retailers and coffee shops all took RAK cards.
In Kincardine, the Community Fund there was particularly active in not only distributing the cards but promoting on Facebook as well.
Social Media Buzz
On Twitter, #RAKDay was the #1 ranked hashtag during the morning hours of November 3rd and then remained among the top 5 trending hashtags in Canada.
4.8 MILLION timeline impressions and a reach of 2,181,753 people was achieved.
While acts of kindness are shown every day in Grey Bruce, having a designated day to encourage gratitude and to pay it forward is a good reminder for us all. Congratulations to the Community Funds on heightening awareness of Random Act of Kindness Day.
